# Kalki

Kalki R. Krishnamurthy (1899–1954) is the most beloved historical novelist in Tamil. He wrote the epic _Ponniyin Selvan_.

## About Kalki Krishnamurthy

He wrote under the pen name Kalki. He was a novelist, journalist and freedom activist. In 1941 he co-founded the famous _Kalki_ magazine. He wrote over 120 short stories and several novels.

Kalki brought Tamil history alive. _Ponniyin Selvan_ tells of the Cholas. _Sivagamiyin Sapatham_ covers the Pallava age. _Alai Osai_ won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1956. It was the first Tamil novel to do so.
